Along with Stand Against Slavery, Hagar, the Prescha Initiative, World Vision, Justice Acts NZ and Raising Hope, ECPAT Child ALERT has contracted the University of Auckland to for a two-year project to research exploitation within New Zealand. There will be specific findings on underage workers including trafficking and involvement in the sex industry.

Following the completion of the research, in-depth evidence-based data will be available to inform government, agencies, schools and childcare providers, parents and the general public about people trafficking within New Zealand. It will also be widely disseminated and used as a tool to provoke stronger child protection measures within New Zealand.
